AT 33: Unaka Mountain, Old Apple Orchard

Got a good deal on a slackpack and out of Uncle Johnny’s just with day packs.

Met Brother Tom on trail, who’s doing trail magic on weekdays. Got sweet tea, brownies, an apple. Thank you!

Climbed Unaka Mountain while it was getting foggier by the minute. Very atmospheric in the dense spruce forest; moss everywhere.

Rain started seriously after the summit. Ran down the mountain to the shelter, trail running might be fun after all. Went further to Iron Gap, where we got our backpacks back.

Turmeric, Torch, and Toto decided to get a hostel, Tim and I went on to the Old Apple Orchard site. Very nice spot with old apple trees in a clearing in the woods. PBJ and Groundhog are here as well.

Set up tents, ate dinner, bedtime.
