AT 38: Trail Days, Day 2

Back to Damascus for more Trail Days.

Dropped off my backpack at the Osprey repair booth to fix my ripped side pocket mesh and take in the hip belt, because it’s gotten a lot looser in the last weeks.

Started to work on the loose hipbelt problem from another angle: by stuffing our faces. Ate eight pancakes, a big burrito, ice cream, Goldbären, popcorn, chips with salsa, brownies, a bagel.

Went on to get a free haircut at the One Way Ministries. Got my repaired pack back at noon. Watched the thruhiker parade in the middle of town and got new shoes at the outfitter.

Then the premiere of a film Darwin and Jennifer Pharr Davis did together with Sawyer. Great documentary and great bunch of people.

Afterwards met up with Cambio and his dad at the town’s distillery. Great place, but limited the number of drinks to two. Strange rules. Got away with having three, then bought some bottles of wine at the Dollar General and went into Tent City with Torch, Turmeric, and Cambio. But not without checking into the One Way Church again and getting some food there first.

Tent City was a blast. Wild people, Big bonfires, roasted pigs, handmade percussion music. Was on the drums for about half an hour.

Warren Doyle picked us up afterwards and drove us back to his place. Very nice guy, and his place is really special.

Plan for tomorrow: Real zero day without activities. Much needed after these two days.
