Got up at 5:30 to get an early start and maybe beat the heat. Having booked a room at the Lookout Hostel in a few days and afterwards taking an unplanned zero has us on a tight schedule. Several big mile days needed to make it.

Got over the train tracks just before a long one came through. A lot of dry, rocky ridges today.

Got trail magic from Twizzler at noon (homemade banana bread, Twizzlers, Gatorade).

Turmeric got stung by wasps about four times today. Stopped by a creek in the evening where she cooled down her feet and wasp stings.

Then another three miles to the top of the next hill, where we camped in a pine grove. Started to rain as soon as we got into the tent. In the night got woken up by porcupines rustling about. Weren’t bothered at all by being shined on with a headlamp.
