AT 109: Off Ramp Adventures

More NY hiking. Big rocks, slanted bridges. Almost walked by the opportunity to see the NYC skyline from trail. Had to tell another hiker (Straight Edge) to look up from the trail as well.

There is a reroute of the AT here, which avoids a highway crossing that can get very busy. We took the original route, and got a not so busy highway crossing and a nicely built trail in the closed down section.

Planned to end the hike at Bear Mountain State Park, which had had some severe weather problems in the last few days.

Didn’t realize that they closed down any and all access to the park. In the evening Buckeye could not get us at the state park parking lot, because the whole highway on/off ramp was closed down. Had to roadwalk a mile out of the park, over the closed offramp, where Buckeye finally picked us up at the side of the highway.

Went to the movie theater for the last time. The car has some issues right now and we have an appointment at a car shop in Warwick tomorrow, so the movie theater is again the most convenient place to stay. Watched Barbie for a third time, we didn’t even need the radio to exactly know what happened in the movie.
