Got up reasonably early and hiked the 3.5 miles to Abol Bridge and the sign up for the Birches campsite. Got two of the last spaces there. Went back to the camp store, got junk food and coffee, got rid of our trash, had a good time with the hiker trash there.

Went on into the park at 10 AM, took our time to get to Katahdin Stream. Did our last shoes off creek crossing, took three breaks at the creek, enjoyed a relaxed day.

At the Birches the ranger gave us our permits and some advice, Johnny K brought fruit and took our trash. He also offered us a ride out of Baxter the next day, which was much appreciated.

Had one of the Birches’ shelters for us alone this night, and went to bed early.
