Another early morning start, but left the tent set up for a change. Walked out of the campground over to the Happy Isles/JMT trailhead (now that’s goals…), then up, up, up.
Passed waterfalls, followed the Merced River, and gained elevation all morning long.
Arrived at the sub dome, which we climbed quickly, and were at the base of the cables. Being up at the sub dome is already impressive, but then there’s quite a bit of vertical gain left going up all the way. Pictures of the cables don’t really do it justice. It’s wild how steep parts of that thing are. People should not be allowed to do this.
Having done this climb once already, Turmeric had the foresight to borrow some climbing gear (Thanks Christie and Steve!), so we clipped onto the cables and were able to go up there relatively stress free.
Got to the top, had views for days, had a nice little chat with an older guy on his tenth ascent, got pics and pics taken, then went down the cables again.
A long way back to the campsite, which took us almost all of the afternoon, then a quick shower and back to bed. A long, strenuous day, but surely a thing that deserves to be on anyone’s bucket list. Was great fun and an experience for sure!
