  • AT 169: The End

    Got up at 5, packed up a final time. Walked over to Katahdin Stream, and started with the Hunt Trail. A long and steep trail that is, with really scrambly parts, exposed ridges, big boulders. The views of the mountain itself were incredible, the views of the landscape around it as well. Reached the summit

    Got up reasonably early and hiked the 3.5 miles to Abol Bridge and the sign up for the Birches campsite. Got two of the last spaces there. Went back to the camp store, got junk food and coffee, got rid of our trash, had a good time with the hiker trash there. Went on into

  • AT 167: Fall Views

    Woke up to a misting, foggy lake. Quite cold and windy. Sun came out while we were walking, with lake views just incredible. Noon break at a pretty viewpoint above a canyon, then back to walking. Did the last two hills of the hike, then a late arrival at the last shelter of the wilderness.
