AT 34: Roan High Knob

Started from the apple orchard quite late, then a relaxed day up Roan High Knob. Nice spruce forest and rocks up there again. Highest shelter on the AT, and fully enclosed with a door. AT 33: Unaka Mountain, Old Apple Orchard

Got a good deal on a slackpack and out of Uncle Johnny’s just with day packs. Met Brother Tom on trail, who’s doing trail magic on weekdays. Got sweet tea, brownies, an apple. Thank you! Climbed Unaka Mountain while it was getting foggier by the minute. Very atmospheric in the dense spruce forest; moss everywhere.

AT 32: Erwin, TN

No bear activity at the shelter, but snake sighting. Keeps the mice in check, so thats perfectly fine. Just about six miles down to Erwin. Really good views of the Nolichucky River from up above. Everytime you come down into the valleys the change of weather, humidity comes as a slight shock. Hostel is right
